LCS Laboratory in London, Ontario analyzes 1000s of asbestos samples every year. To make sure that our test results are accurate, we repeat each test in triplicate, and therefore we require a sufficient amount of material to work with.

For the majority construction materials like tiles, drywall, and shingles, we need at least a one gram sample of the material. This is approximately the size of a 1/4 teaspoon.  Of course, we are able to work with larger samples, a full teaspoon or even a 1″x 1″ chunk of drywall is sufficient for our testing. Please, do not send us rolls of vinyl flooring or pounds of drywall, it is cumbersome and unnecessary.

When we test Vermiculite attic insulation for asbestos, we need much larger samples. During each test we use about 20-40 g of vermiculite (the size of a full coffee cup). For example, it is roughly the equivalent of a sandwich-size Ziploc bag filled with vermiculite.

When you prepare your material for shipping, please place it into a Ziploc bag and seal it tight. Place the sample bag into another bag for extra protection. Label each sample individually, complete the Request for Analysis Form, and send the sample together with the form to our laboratory. We will test your samples and send you a formal, detailed report. Please feel free to examine an example of our report and our price list.
