LCS Laboratory Inc., offers laboratory tests for the detection of formaldehyde in foam insulation. UFFI was a type of insulation that was widely used around the World, including Canada, USA, and Europe. Health Canada describes UFFI as a low density foam that has the appearance and consistency of shaving cream. It becomes stiff and self-supporting when it dries or cures (hardens).

In late 1970’s , it was discovered that freshly installed UFFI may produce a significant amount of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen, and due to this, UFFI became a major health concern.
In December of 1980, the Canadian Government prohibited the advertising, sale or import of UFFI and similar products into Canada under item 34, Part I of Schedule I to the Hazardous Products Act. This includes melamine urea and other urea formaldehyde resins.
Numerous studies were conducted since, and it is believed that even after 30 years the UFFI foam still produces low levels of formaldehyde. In fact, this is exactly how our laboratory identifies UFFI: we measure the presence of free formaldehyde in foam insulation.
